Spiders produce silk through specialized body parts called spinnerets, located at the rear of their abdomen. The silk is made from proteins produced in the spider's silk glands. When the spider needs to create silk, these proteins are forced through the spinnerets where they harden upon exposure to air, forming thin strands of silk. Spiders can produce different types of silk for various purposes such as building webs, creating egg sacs, or for safety lines.
