Yes, fish do sleep, but their sleep patterns are different from those of land animals. Fish do not close their eyes because they do not have eyelids. Instead, they enter a state of rest where their metabolism slows down, they become less responsive to stimuli, and their swimming activity decreases. Some fish may find a safe place to rest while others may continue to swim slowly during their "sleep."
