Seeds grow into plants through a process called germination. When a seed is planted in soil, it absorbs water and swells, which triggers the germination process. The seed coat softens and the embryo inside the seed begins to grow. The root emerges first and starts to grow downward into the soil to anchor the plant and absorb water and nutrients. Then, the shoot emerges from the seed and grows upward towards the light. As the shoot grows, it develops leaves that will help the plant photosynthesize and produce food. Over time, the plant continues to grow and develop, eventually forming flowers and producing new seeds to continue the life cycle.
