Seeds grow into plants through a process called germination. When a seed is planted in soil, it absorbs water which activates enzymes inside the seed. This triggers the seed to sprout a root that anchors it in the soil, and a shoot that emerges from the soil towards the sunlight. The shoot then develops leaves which enable the plant to photosynthesize and produce its own food. Over time, the plant continues to grow and mature, eventually producing flowers and fruits.
