Plants use a process called photosynthesis to convert sunlight into food. During photosynthesis, plants take in carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil. Using the energy from sunlight, they convert these raw materials into glucose (sugar) and oxygen. This process occurs in the chloroplasts of plant cells, specifically in the chlorophyll, the green pigment that captures sunlight. The glucose produced serves as food for the plant, while the oxygen is released into the air as a byproduct. This entire process allows plants to create their own food and energy source using sunlight.
