Glaciers form from compacted snow that accumulates over time. As more snow falls, the weight of the snow compresses the layers underneath, forming ice. Glaciers move due to gravity - the ice slowly flows downhill under its own weight. This movement can be imperceptibly slow, with glaciers moving only a few centimeters per day, or faster in certain conditions.
