Rabbits eat their own poop as a way to re-digest their food and extract additional nutrients from it. This behavior is called coprophagy and is a natural part of a rabbit's digestive process. Rabbits produce two types of droppings: hard, dry pellets that they don't eat, and soft, partially digested pellets known as cecotropes that they consume directly from their anus to fully digest their food. This unique digestive strategy helps rabbits get the most nutrition from their plant-based diet.
