Birds migrate by using a combination of their innate ability to sense the Earth's magnetic field, visual landmarks, the position of the sun and stars, and memory of familiar routes. They also rely on weather patterns and winds to assist them during their long journeys. Some birds can travel thousands of miles during migration to reach their breeding or wintering grounds.
