An alchemist is a person who practices alchemy, a medieval form of chemistry and speculative philosophy that aimed to transform base metals into gold, discover a universal cure for disease, and achieve immortality. Alchemists also sought to understand the nature of matter and energy and the relationship between the physical and spiritual realms.
