The title of fastest insect goes to the Australian tiger beetle, scientific name Cicindela hudsoni. While their speed of 5.5 mph (9 km/h) might not seem that impressive, it's all relative! At that speed, they are zooming along at an incredible 171 body lengths per second. To put that in perspective, imagine a human running at 720 mph – that's almost the speed of sound!
