Mountains are formed by tectonic plate movements and interactions. When tectonic plates collide, one plate can be forced beneath the other in a process called subduction, leading to the formation of mountain ranges. Additionally, when plates move apart, such as at divergent boundaries, magma can rise to the surface and create volcanic mountains. Erosion and sedimentation also play a role in shaping and forming mountains over time.
