Cats have excellent night vision due to several adaptations in their eyes. They have a higher number of rod cells in their retinas, which are sensitive to low light levels. Additionally, cats have a layer of cells called the tapetum lucidum behind their retina, which reflects light back through the retina, giving them a "second chance" to see the light that enters their eyes. These adaptations allow cats to see in light levels six times lower than what a human needs.
