Cultural appropriation in contemporary art has been a topic of debate and discussion. It can play a role in contemporary art by raising awareness of cultural issues, fostering cross-cultural dialogue, and challenging traditional notions of authenticity and ownership. However, it can also be criticized for exploiting and misrepresenting marginalized cultures, perpetuating stereotypes, and erasing the voices of the communities being appropriated. Artists and art institutions are increasingly being called upon to approach cultural appropriation with sensitivity, respect, and accountability.
