The purpose of a bearded dragon's beard is primarily for communication and display. When a bearded dragon feels threatened or stressed, it will puff out its beard to appear larger and more intimidating to potential predators or rivals. The beard can also change color, darkening or lightening depending on the dragon's mood or to communicate with other dragons.
