On the evening of April 14, 1865, while attending a performance at Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C., John Wilkes Booth shot President Lincoln in the back of the head. Although medical attention was provided, Lincoln succumbed to his injuries and passed away early the next morning, April 15, 1865.
