During the Sassanian dynasty, the borders of Iran approached those of the Achaemenid period. The Sassanian Empire, which ruled from 224 to 651 AD, encompassed territories that were similar in size to the Achaemenid Empire, including parts of present-day Iran, Iraq, Armenia, and the Caucasus region. The Sassanians sought to revive the glory of ancient Persia and expand their borders to rival the Achaemenids.
