A solar eclipse can last for a few minutes to up to a couple of hours, depending on the type of eclipse. A total solar eclipse, where the moon completely blocks the sun, typically lasts for a few minutes at any given location along the path of totality. However, when including the entire duration of the eclipse from start to finish, it can last for a few hours.
