Light Yagami is motivated to use the Death Note for his own purposes due to his strong desire to create a world without crime and to become a god-like figure known as "Kira." His belief in his own sense of justice leads him to use the Death Note to eliminate criminals and those he deems as evil in order to bring about a new world order.
