Light Yagami, the protagonist of the manga and anime series "Death Note," manipulates his own emotions by suppressing any feelings of guilt or remorse for his actions. He convinces himself that his actions are justified in order to achieve his goal of creating a utopian society through the use of the Death Note. By rationalizing his actions and detaching himself from his emotions, Light is able to focus solely on his goal of becoming the god-like figure known as Kira.
