Kangaroos care for their joeys by keeping them in their pouch until they are old enough to venture out. Inside the pouch, the joey is kept safe, warm, and well-nourished by nursing from its mother. As the joey grows, it will start to explore the outside world but will still return to the pouch for safety and nourishment. The mother kangaroo also grooms and protects her joey, teaching it important survival skills until it is independent enough to be on its own.
