Snakes shed their skin through a process called ecdysis, also known as molting. This process involves the snake growing a new layer of skin underneath the old one. As the new skin develops, the old skin becomes loose and the snake rubs against rough surfaces to help peel it off. Once the old skin is completely shed, the snake emerges with a fresh, vibrant skin layer.
