Upon crossing the spring to access the underground cave housing the altar, Meliodas and Ban engage in a competition to determine who will face a troll. Inadvertently, they end up killing it. Upon witnessing the peculiar magic departing the troll's body, Meliodas deduces that it originates from a Goddess's power. Subsequently, when Jenna and Zaneri emerge, having trailed them, Meliodas intervenes to protect Zaneri from an oncoming troll attack. He then advises them to depart, as the trolls are evidently under the influence of a Goddess.
