Lions recognize their territory boundaries primarily through scent marking. They use their urine, feces, and scent glands to leave markers along the edges of their territory. Other lions can then detect these scents and understand that they are entering another group's territory. Lions also use vocalizations, such as roaring, to communicate and reinforce their territorial boundaries.
