Pyroclastic flows are fast-moving currents of hot gas and volcanic matter (such as ash, rock fragments, and gas) that flow downhill from a volcano during an eruption. These flows can reach speeds of up to 700 km/h (430 mph) and are extremely dangerous, capable of destroying everything in their path.
