The sky appears blue today due to a phenomenon known as Rayleigh scattering. This occurs when sunlight reaches Earth's atmosphere and is scattered in all directions by the gases and particles in the air. Blue light is scattered more than other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. As a result, we see the sky as blue during the day.
